Proviene principalmente dalla Giamaica (da qui il nome di ebano della Giamaica) o comunque dalle isole caraibiche. Proviene dall’albero della Brya ebenus.
Essendo un legno di eccezionale qualità viene utilizzato generalmente per la produzione di manici per coltelli, mobili di lusso, strumenti musicali ed ebanisteria
